Concurrent Session 1: Advanced Performance Driver Training Room 311 This session will provide an overview of criterion-based training. The program is designed to predict the safety performance of student operators after training by identifying potentially unsafe operators during training and disqualifying them from operating in passenger service. Administered correctly, it allows only those trainees to advance that have satisfied the initial “behind the wheel” training requirements. It also clearly exposes those who have not met the training requirements by their unsatisfactory performance of driving skills. Presenter: Louis Maiello, Transit Training Specialist, FAAC, Inc.

Concurrent Session 2: Bus Fire Statistics: Solutions for Extinguishing the Problem Room 309 Many questions and concerns continue to surface within the bus industry and media regarding bus fires or “thermal events." Some say the loss of life, injuries, damage, and economic loss of the bus itself appear to be on the rise and that there is no clear solution on the horizon. This year, BusCon has assembled a panel of national and international representatives from academia, manufacturing, standards development organizations, and fleet maintenance management to explore and discuss a number of issues, including the types of bus fires, who records fire statistics and the source of their data. It will further discuss new and application-ready technologies that can be considered for purchase on new buses and recommended practices already available and adaptable for mixed-fuel fleets. Moderator: Halsey King, Halsey King and Associates Panelists: Daniel Blower, University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute; Angela Krcmar, Firetrace International; Joseph Peoples, Kidde Aerospace and Defense; Björn Sundström, SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden
